5 Business Tips for Stay at Home Moms

February 24, 2017

For every busy mom out there, we have to say – we got you, girl! Being a full-time mom can be difficult. Arguably, more difficult than any job out there. Yet, if you feel like you want or need to do more, you can. If you are looking for a career you can pursue, there are plenty of business possibilities available. Each that can help boost your budget.

So, before you dive deep into the world of mompreneurs we have one more thing to say. Do not fear that your child will be needing your attention once you start working. It’s actually the complete opposite. A study found that children, especially girls, whose mother pursued a career are more likely to become successful themselves!

So, let’s see what business opportunities are out there waiting to be snatched.

Turn your home into a daycare

Since you’re already a stay at home mom, you can choose to become a child care professional and turn your home into a daycare. First, you should check the laws in your country, as well as state requirements, so that you know which permits and papers you need to get before you start.

Once you have all the necessary paperwork, you should decide how many kids you will feel comfortable looking after. Depending on your country laws, hiring a helper may be required to look after many kids. Finally, go shopping and buy educational toys, books and child-sized furniture. When the planning and set up is complete, you can finally open shop and start enrolling children.

Organize field trips

If your kids are no longer very small, and if you have a way with kids, you can choose to plan field trips for the kids from your neighbourhood. Here, you’ll first need to determine what type of field trips you want to take part in. Do you want to take kids to the park after their parents come home so that they can have some time for themselves or you’d rather take kids to museums, art galleries and free exhibitions?

Here, you’ll also need to ask around about the necessary paperwork, because you’ll be held responsible for every single child. Aside from that, the only real investment you’ll need to make is buying (or renting) a minivan so that you can transport all the kids in a safe manner.

For the unconventional moms

Because you’re a mom and, of course, you love your kids, it doesn’t have to mean that you like all the kids. Jokes aside, if you feel like the first two ideas might be a bit too overwhelming for you, don’t even try them out. What you can do instead is find alternative ways to boost your income. For example, you can challenge Lady Luck and try your hand at online slots.

Alternatively, if you were a gamer girl before you became a gamer mom, you can decide to stream your game progress on Twitch. More likely than not, you’re bound to get a significant following because a gamer mom is not something you see every day.

Become a blogger

Blogs, in general, are becoming more and more popular. People are more inclined nowadays to ask the Internet for help and they usually turn to somebody only if the Internet doesn’t deliver. That’s why, if you love the written word, you can become a mommy blogger.

With the millennial becoming the main parenting force nowadays, you’re bound to find your target audience in no time. Since you’re a mom yourself, why not spread the word and share your experience with other moms or moms-to-be.

This is a stress-free business idea you can do from the comfort of your own home. The best thing is that it allows you to boost your income even further if you decide to join some affiliate program.

Yet, if you do decide to become an affiliate, make sure you promote and offer only the products and services you believe in, to avoid losing your audience’s trust.

Start a YouTube channel

Like becoming a blogger, you can start your own YouTube channel. If you have a great personality and people generally find you entertaining, this business idea seems like it’s made for you.

If you decide to take this route, avoid including your kids in the videos. Or rather, avoid making them the main focus of your videos – because your audience will be there for you, not them.

Besides, they are too young to understand the industry and they are not quite able to give you real consent. Ask yourself this, would you be happy if there were videos of you as a baby circling around the internet?

As you can see, there are many ways a strong, independent stay at home mom can earn some serious buck. So, don’t think that you have to be a mom first and everything else later. Instead, be a mompreneur first and teach your kids how it’s okay to follow your dreams.
