We’ve all been there and experienced a crappy day. It usually starts as soon as you wake up, and doesn’t get any better. A bad day can begin in many ways. From spilling hot water on your hand, not being able to find your keys, noticing a stain on your dress, or looking out to see a storm raging outside. Whatever the reason might be, we’ve compiled a foolproof list of ways to beat the gloom and stress of a tough day ahead.
So if you’ve woken up or found that you’ve walked into a bad day, we’ve got you covered. Without further mishappenings or mayhem, let’s dive into how to turn your day around and end what need not be an “oh-my-word-why-does-this-happen-to-me-let-this-day-die” type of day.
Our Bad Day Advice
Take a deep breath
Stop for a moment and just breathe. This is important. Take a deep breath in for several seconds and exhale. Get yourself into the moment and realise this isn’t the end of the world. Focus on your breathing and think about what happened. A single bad moment doesn’t make a bad day. Think positively as you focus on the issue and ask yourself, “will this matter in a week, or a year?”. Put the problem into perspective and try to maintain a balanced and reassuring stance.
By accepting that something has happened will allow you to move on. Realise that this is normal, and it happens to other people on a daily basis. Rather than blowing it out of proportion or spreading this misfortune or bad luck onto everything else during the day, try bottle it. By keeping whatever happened as an isolated incident you’ll be able to appreciate everything else that comes your way.
First, we spoke about taking a moment to acknowledge what happened. To stop and put it in perspective. Then we need to realise that this moment or incident should not stand in the way of the rest of your day. Next, it is time to reset your happiness or productivity to how it would usually be on a good day. There are several ways in which one can restore harmony or get back into a good mood.
We can recommend stepping outside into nature. Go for a walk in the park and be surrounded by the serenity and calmness of the birds, trees and open spaces. For others, you could simply submerge yourself in a good article or book. For those pressed for time or at work, you could step out for a quick coffee or plug in some headphones. Music, iced or warm beverages, a book, a walk or a break can do the trick.
Despite what may have happened, life goes on. It is important to remain optimistic and realize that tomorrow is another day. Be open about expressing your emotions or concerns with your friends, family and place of work. Let them know you may need some time, or assistance with what has gone down. In the moment everything might feel hopeless, but remember you are stronger and capable of getting through it.
