Tips To Avoid Germs When You Travel

Whether you are travelling solo or with your children, the last thing you want is to spend a holiday sick in bed. Even if you remain cautious, there are times when you catch a cold or are down with the flu. Major precautions like drinking bottled water and washing hands can help you in keeping the germs away from your body. But it also depends on where you are travelling and how you are travelling.

If you are travelling with children, you need to be extra cautious to ensure that they are comfortable and safe at all times. Here are a few tips to help keep the infections at bay when you travel with children.

Ensure you are up to date with immunizations

Whichever destination you are travelling to, it is important to ensure that you as well as your child has had the necessary vaccinations. There are some countries which require you to have special vaccinations for illnesses and diseases, you need to take them before you leave your country. The best way to prevent illness is to wash your hands often and always before meals. You should ensure that your children also wash their hands from time to time using soap as well as water. You need to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds in order to ensure that there are no germs on them. You should also teach your kids to not put dirty things or dirty hands inside their mouth.

Keep a hand sanitizer with you

 It is essential to wash hands with water and soap as often as you can, however, you need to have a sanitizing gel or wet wipes with you when soap or water is not available. It is important where it could get difficult to head to a restroom like on an aeroplane. You need to ensure that your children rub sanitizer on their hands until it dries and if you see dirt on their hands, the sanitizer will not be enough.

Keep away from restroom surfaces

Whether you are in an aeroplane or at a restaurant, turn off the faucet with a paper towel and do not touch any restroom surfaces. It is a breeding ground for germs. Do not touch the handle of the door and use a paper towel instead. Always wash your hands thoroughly when you use a public restroom.

Drink bottled water

 Whenever you are travelling, make it a point to drink bottled water. There could be bacteria in water and it could lead to stomach flu. Wherever you go, carry a bottle of mineral water with you and ensure that your children also have bottled water at all times.

Remain cautious in swimming pools and parks

If your kids love to splash in the pool, you need to ensure that they rinse off before and after taking the plunge. Whether it is a swimming pool or a park, it could be a breeding ground for pink eye and skin viruses. Even chlorination does not kill all the bacteria present in water. You need to teach your children to avoid swallowing water in the water parks and inside the pools.

If you take simple precautions, you will be able to enjoy your holiday and ensure that you and your children do not catch an infection. Going abroad does sound like fun but the first step you should take is to research the weather and the medical conditions. Inquire if you need to take any special precautions or vaccinations before you travel. Keep your regular medicines handy and try to maintain a safe distance with any sick passengers present on the aeroplane. With simple but effective measures, you will enjoy the family holiday. When moving with infants to a different country, it is advisable to consult a medical practitioner for the same. You might be required to carry additional medicines for the child. Get enough sleep and drink more liquids at all times. Lastly, do not experiment a lot with food when it comes to your children.
